I've been out of the game for quite a while. My BCD 396XT was out of commission for a long long time, but I finally sent it to Uniden and had it repaired. I see that FREESCAN is no longer has supported, and I was wondering if there are any other free software downloads for programming the unit out there. I appreciate any help that you might be able to provide for an old guy that once made his feed public for years before the free apps were out there for the young'uns.

Freescan still supports that model.

Freescan is the only free programming software that I am aware of for that model. It looks like Marshall Co is still using just a handful of conventional frequencies. If you still have Freescan, it will be more than adequate for the job.

s already noted, FreeSCAN will program your 396XT with no issues.

What is not being supported with FreeSCAN is full programming and imports for DMR systems, nor any support for NXDN system (which does not apply to the 396XT). The original author of FreeSCAN is no longer trying to keep it updated. There are a few members trying to see if further improvements can be made, but that is a project just now being started. See this thread.
