BCD396T Firmware and Computer Cable

Hi: I am new to all this here...If my scanner info says that it is Firmware 1.13.17, does that mean it is up-to-date since I see no higher firmware number on my Scanner's download page?
Also, the remote computer cable RC250D, which came with the BCD396D does not seem to be compatible with my laptop, since it appears to have a SERIAL connector on one end, whereas the laptop does not have one. Any Help with this? Thanks.

You have the latest firmware on your scanner.

Another option - I went out to Wal-Mart and got a USB<>Serial adapter cord for around $30 and it works fine.
