• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Has any one comapred this UPA78N G5 Unication Pager Best Tuned Whip Antenna 4dB Gain Upgrade 3.0" 763-870 antenna to the OEM antenna and or Kenwood KRA-38 ? The poster claims that its designed for unication pagers and will not effect the center pin nor any trimming requirements. Additionaly this antenna has 4.0 db gain.
Apparently , this antenna SWR shows bellow 1.5.1 VS the OEM antenna at 3.1.

Actually I have the latest version of all 3 antennas. I had my G5 on a marginal signal NC VIPER site, and I swapped out all 3 antennas listening to statewide call doing a long nightly roll call (so I would have a constant signal). Actually all 3 received the same as my original G5 antenna. I have the G5+ with the newer G5 antenna. I looked at the diagnostic screen and the signal strength was the same with each antenna as well. I recommend the actual G5 antenna that's currently supplied with the pager.

The person asking the question was mentioning the VSWR of the OEM antenna and the one with 4 DB gain. I am sure that makes a difference if we're talking about a transmitter but I didn't hear any audible signal difference on a weak P25 trunking system or see a difference in the pager diagnostic mode screen.

Thank you. I agree that the Unication OEM antenna is by far the best for its form factor and delivery.

73,
I bought it and found it gets about 1 bar less than my blue or purple oem antenna. I would not recommend it.

The KR-38 beats the OEM antenna if you don't mind the increased length.
