With the 396T hopefully available in the next few weeks, anyone know what software will be available to control/program it? Are the usual 3rd party people working on a release?

Uniden is also releasing a full version (free) with the radio.

Thanks for the info. Wonder if the Uniden version will be as comprehensive as the Butel one.

I'm pretty sure Ken D. (Scan Control) is also working on it, as is Jim Springer (Scancat) Heck I'd be interested to see if anyone is working on freeware for this scanner. I sure as heck wouldn't want to do 6000 channels by hand - I'd go blind :D

You can bet that whatever is developed will be more comprehensive than the Uniden offering. We'll just have to wait and see. I understand the folks that have been doing the beta testing have been satisfied with the Uniden offering, but I'm going to bet that it's not all that comprehensive.

Might I suggest, then, that you program it by hand only up to the point where you need glasses. :D

Not sure what "Comprehensive" means in your context...UASD is able to program all settings for all types of radio systems, transfer them to the scanner, read them from the scanner, etc. Will also do online control.

Any chance we might get to download the software from the Uniden website before the radio is released. It is not a priority or anything, but would be nice to start working on programming those 6000 channels and text before the radio arrives. :D

Paul, I don't want to seem like I'm casting stones here, but since no one has seen the UASD software, all we're left with is an assumption that it will not quite cover all the functions as well or as completly as a third party offering. For example, I refer you to the bottom of the page for the ARC246 software from BuTel, which has a point by point comparison between it and the UASD:

ARC246

And I haven't even mentioned the number of complaints about how the UASD wasn't working on their systems - for whatever reason (user mistake, whatever). 'Nuff said on that topic, for sure.

Of course, we all know what assume means....thanx for all the hard work you've done on these scanners. It's a refreshing change to have somone in the know.
