BCD396T Worth it?

Currently I have a BC80XLT. I am looking at getting the BCD96T but am not sure if i need to get a digital scanner. From what i have read i do think i need a digital scanner do to the new Starcom system. Am i correct? Also is the BCD396T worth the $500 or is there a different Uniden model i should look into.

take a look at the radio shack pro96 on sale for 399.95, it is a great scanner

If you are talking about the State of IL starcom21 system found here: http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=2324 -- then yes you will need a digital scanner.

It would help if you could give your state and county that way it would be easy to see what your needs are.

Ya in Illinois, I live in Mchenry county and go to school in central Illinois. I would really like to stick with Uniden and I am not a big fan of the size of the Radio Shacks.

I would (and am) wait until you need the digital radio. You never know when Starcom21 is going to be rolled out in your area and you only benefit by waiting. New models come out, prices drop, delays occur, etc.

Ya that is what i was thinking too. As I went through the frequencies I want to monitor there was only one digital system so i think i will hold onto my $525 for a little longer.
