Looking for some advice as where to pick up a programming cable. Tough to find and very expensive. Does anyone have a cheaper alternative? Maybe a cable that is "used" for a different purpose that will work with these scanners? Any ideas would be a great help. Thanks

Be careful if condering a low cost cable on eBay. Most of those have proved to be useless counterfeits. While the Serial port to the unique connector for the scanner cables might be ok, generally the USB cables are useless. They are a simple USB cable, USB-1 on one end, and the scanner connector on the other. For a USB cable to work, the cable has to have the circuitry needed to convert a USB port to be used as a serial (COM) port. That's normally done with an inline 'bulb' on the cable to hold the parts needed.

I use the standard DB9 female to mini RS-232 cable that comes with the scanner and a USB to serial adapter cable. The USB to serial adapter cable is an Insignia NS-PU99501. I have never had any compatibility problems with any scanner or software using that adapter.

TRENDnet TU-S9. Believe it uses a Prolific chip, same as Uniden's cable. Had mine for years, so I'm not sure if I have the Version v1.xR or Version v2.0R. It is white in color, if that helps. Watch out for counterfeits. Prolific implemented a change in their free Driver software, which detects counterfeit chips and will not work with them.

Went with this one last year after my serial cable adapter stopped working. It works great, a little pricey though.

I picked this one up and works with windows 10 (1903) then coupled with your existing serial cable is cheapest $ option to me as I write.
Plugged it in and and windows installed correct drivers.

Yeah you have to watch out on these cables if they will work with windows 10 and the prolific chip sets. My original one either went south as I had it for several years or windows 10 updates finally made it so it wouldn't work, even did the windows 10 bypass signed drivers work around.

I wouldnt try ebay here imho, due to windows 10 chipset as the price above is pretty good imho and the windows 10 chipset thing,

Scannermaster have them for $29.95 for original Uniden cord, or on eBay this seller has the good cords for them for $25.95 and free shipping.
