Anyone know where I can purchase a set of the screws for the rear cover. Uniden gave me a part number, and told me they would have some a week after my call, but then when I called the person I spoke to denied the part number and told me they had to call China to try to get the screws.

This is the part number I was given, SSCW802014B.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

It's not really any of my business! but i guess the thought runs thru My mind why would there be a need Opening the Case if that was the Case + it Yields Nothing there is No user serviceable parts and No Modifying can be performed..

I Guess the Need to have an Extra screw for the Bell that Snaps to the Belt Hook would be a Nice thing to have in a Pinch but i'd think the best thing to do is to Let Uniden do the Opening of Case plus it Helps keep you Warranty in tact..

Since your in this Pinch:
If you have any one of the Screws you might look at your nearest Home Depot, Lows or Ace Hardware see if they have something very Similar to Style of your Case screw if so give it a Try but if there is any resistance at all STOP and slowly back the screw out..

I called them yesterday myself for the same parts. All I was told is that they cannot order them. They are just screws, but the person I spoke to said they cannot order them, and they could not take order to ship when they become available

I looked at Busy Beaver and Lowes here locally. Nothing even close. I did not see anything that was small enough, and the threads look a little different as well.

I had to take my back case apart a couple of times to replace the SMA antenna jack. . I

Any suggestions as to where to get replacement screws would be appreciated. At least the specs, so I could search for replacement screws.

It would be soooooooo much easier if there was an exploded view parts diagram that you could use to order parts or at least look up the part numbers and specs.

You Might try Hobby Lobby or is there a Hobby store in your Town were they sell Model Plains, Trains, things like that give one of those places a try

And
I'm not trying to sound like an old Grouch! The reason Uniden is telling you what they are they don't won't any to one to Mess with opening the back of that Case.. If they did they would have those case screws on the 396's web page with a part No.

I'm really surprised that Uniden hasn't implemented some kind of Tamper prof Screw to keep people out from the Back i Understand the Cost of Sending in a Unit for repair is High but does it out way the cost if you can't find the proper screws to match the Holes..

A complete set of all the 6 ? There are 2 screws in the middle, the 2 near the top and the 2 small ones inside the battery compartment.
IMO cant imagine how one could lose track of all six, but (it) happens I guess.

Just the 4 screws on the upper part of the case. The ones in the battery compartment didn't get beat up as badly as those. Not lost, but buggered up. Yes, likely my fault, but it happens.

Uniden does in fact sell parts that require you take the case apart. They sell the front case, the back case, the keys, sma antenna jack, the rubber boot to cover the data port and more. Most of those parts are openly listed on their site, for people to replace themselves. That is not the point. Heck, they know there are some geeky folks (myself included) out there up to the task of replacing an antenna jack and some other little things themselves.

It's just frustrating when a simple part like that is this difficult to get.

If it was me I would measure the length of the screws from under the screw head to the end of of screw at the point. maybe the entire screw length including the screw head too may help. Try and count how many volutes (spirals). Then do a search on the net.

When you say buggered up pretty much hmmm ? If the screws are still in the radio I definitely wouldn't try this method! Nor should you!
If the screws are out of the radio and the head of the screw slots are messed up and the screwdriver can't get a bite, if you have a dremel, I would put the screw in a vise - not to mess up the threads though when tightening the vise.
I dunno if one would try this on such a small screw though. Attempt this "VERY" "delicately " as they are small obviously - Re-Slotting a Screw with a Dremel Rotary Tool - YouTube

bear780ks, Uniden is glad to sell parts for your scanner that are not normally sold. I Have gathered a list of part numbers needed to refurbish the scanner. Uniden has a wiki parts request page where you can ask for specific numbers. You can give them the numbers when you call. I just received the scroll control knob that goes on the board made by Tocos. They will not sale some parts though.

I was told that they didn't have any screws when I asked. I still have all of mine, but it would be nice to have an extra set.

This is almost exactly what you need:

Self-Tapping/Machine Screws W/Shoulder 2x12 (bag of 100pc)

Self Tapping Screws w/shoulder M2x12 (10pcs/set)

They are just a tiny bit short, the ones in the 396 are M2 X 14. Maybe try a hobby shop or scrounge on-line hobby shops or Ebay but the last time I was looking to stock up the 12mm long ones were the longest the Hobby King had.

Even though the 12mm are a bit short they will hold the scanner together just fine, I just tried one in mine.

Yeah, here:

Only thing that I could think to do is go to Radio Shack and see if they have the screw set for the PRO 137 race scanner, it is a similar case.

Well one thing i was going to Suggest and this is a Long shot in the Arm if there was some one here on the Forum that has a 396T or 396XT or even a 345 that Just did not work any more and Fixing it would cost more than getting a New one. If the person wouldn't mind parting with it).

You could buy it for Parts scrap the Guts use the case if it's in good shape and get the Screws that Way. Like i said it's Long shot but it doesn't hurt to Ask..

Ra..

Try this company , they stock every concievable fastener you could ever need and in every size....

Spaenaur - Products

They are pretty weak in the small stuff. Even the few #2 they list are like one is half inch the next is 1 inch long, and #2 is bigger than M2, might crack the case of the scanner where it threads into.

Get the ones in the E-bay link I provided above, they are the exact size.

Maybe I'll buy a new scanner, take the screws out and then return it. :)

Thanks for the responses.

They were the correct length? I don't care if their silver or black. Just the length and threading.
