I was wondering if it is worth buying a BCD396XT at this point. I know I will eventually need a digital scanner (Southern California), but was wondering if I should wait for the new Uniden scanners to be announced.

On an aside, so far all I've heard about is the new 346XTC, the "C" standing for California because in-unit rechargeable batteries are supposedly against the law now. It is the same as the 346XT, but does not recharge in unit.

No matter what.................................................
It is BEST PRACTICE not to recharge the Batteries in the Scanner.............................
NO MATTER WHAT ......................................
Do a search and it has come up over and over, does not matter if true or not................
DO NOT CHARGE BATTERY'S IN YOUR SCANNER...................

If you don't need the scanner right now, I suggest waiting until Black Friday when they will almost certainly be on sale. In addition, by then Uniden may have a new model or two, for you to choose from.

UPMan will usually announce new models when they are about six months away from release. Since he has not announced anything new, we are at least six months and one day away from a new model being released.

I have heard the no recharging in the scanner several times now. How about using the AC adapter for external power and not having to run on batteries all the time? Take the batteries out? Still not safe?

I could be wrong, but I think the concern is that if overcharged, they can leak into the scanner and ruin it.

When running just on AC it's always a good idea to remove the batteries, for reasons you already know,,,Mike

Or flip the switch to ALK and it WONT charge the batteries when plugged in, then you can plug it in anytime without worries
