BCD436HP/BCD536HP: BCD436 DISPLAY

I bought a used 426 off of ebay. The radio works great . The display is a washed out . It is not a bright black and white more of a dim light black on a dim white background. I have the dimmer control set on high and the contrast set on 13. The ads for this radio show a clear black and white display. Is this normal or does it need to go Uniden for repair. Are their any setting that I am missing?

Does the seller accept returns? I'd take it up with the seller or with ebay if necessary. Perhaps it had been in a cold environment during shipping? Leave it out at room temp for a while, see if anything changes

You mention contrast, so you are aware of the setting - which I'd adjust to lower/upper range to see.

And... if you have adjusted the contrast and still can't get a decent display, it is defective / in need of repair.
Or, a refund.....

The display was washed out on most of them in the beginning. Took about 6 months to happen. Mine had it at the same time I was lining the battery cover with copper foil LOL. Radio is pretty long in the tooth now. There was some issues in the beginning. It is what it is. Of course no returns LOL.
