I've been considering jumping to the 436 from my 396 and I'm wondering what happens when you enter something as extensive as any NYC area zipcode? Do you get everything listed on RR database for New York City? Everything from NYPD to Local business to Fed?

You can select the types of services to monitor, in addition to the geographic location to pull channels from. You can also narrow down further by moving specific channels you want to monitor to a Favorites List and then scann from it.

Ok great and the services on the SD Card are a copy of what's on the RR site?

Does the database come preloaded into the scanner itself or is it on the SD Card? There's been talk of replacing the SD card when you purchase the scanner. I ask because I'm going on vacation next week and want to have this sorted. Is the BCD436HP ready to load a zipcode out of the box?

And one more question, there's rumors of a hardware upgrade? Does that mean we would send in the BCD436HP to get parts swapped out?

You can scan your zip code right out of the box, however it is recommended that you update the database first using the Sentinel software.

The master database as well as any favorites lists you create are always stored on the SD card. The are loaded into the scanner's memory on start-up depending on what you have selected to scan.

New SD cards can be prepared for use by simply copying the data from your old one to the new one. If you have a corrupted SD card without a spare (copied) card, you can prepare a new SD card for use in a matter of minutes (with all the necessary files and your favorites lists) using the Sentinel Software.
