I recently bought a BCD436HP and have a question/concern that I was wondering if someone can help with. I am in the Orange County NY area and entered 10990 as the zip code for the database.

My first question is about reception on my local systems. I don't seem to be getting good reception on my local systems (VHF high and EDACS) with the standard antenna. It seems to be a little better on UHF and VHF low band. What is really surprising to me though is that I can hear NJSP units 50+ miles away like I am sitting in the car next to the trooper.

My old PRO-106 blows the new BCD out of the water on the conventional system even using an 800MHz antenna.

Is this an antenna issue? System issue?

Isn't there an antenna adapter that comes with the 436 so that you can switch antennas with the Pro and easily check if it is an antenna issue? Conventional receive are a pure antenna/receiver perfomance issue and not a system setup problem.

If you purchased your BCD436HP new, it came with an SMA to BNC antenna adaptor in the box.

Check your owner's manual, page 8, under the heading "Included With Your Scanner".
