BCD436HP Repair ?

hello everybody,

just wanted to know if anybody has or had issues with their radios after you accidently took them into a cancer care center..? yesterday i was noticing that i wasnt hearing anything on the SD Trunk System.. so i might need to dig my backup radio out and use it till after rally till i can find a shop that works on scanners that were bought from Amazon.. i bought this one in April of 2021 just for reference..

Have you checked the SD Card still has the programming on it? Were you anywhere near an MRI machine?

i was in the same room as my uncle was in at the time.. i've checked my SD card 2 times since i got back from Rapid yesterday.. it still has the programming on it.. i can still get analog and i believe my DMR stuff (but i will have to confirm that later, here) that cancer wing don't have any MRI gear in it i don't think.. just machines and whatnot..

maybe the chemo drugs the nurses were giving my uncle, "zapped" my 436 1 too many times..

no need to send it into the repair shop yet.. i got it working again.. easy fix.. i had to use "Trunking Discovery" and there it started to come alive again..

bad news... i tried to get a different SD card and formatted it and that didnt help... so it's not the SD card.. it's the radio some how..

Uniden repair is a flat rate of $95. Send it on down.

would it be worth it to send it into get fixed or should i save up or a SDS-100 or should i trade it in as is...?

well i thought i had it fixed but.. it's doing the very same thing still... when i go to a favorites list and hit the channel button on the 436hp it's only got 1 talkgroup that it stops on and it dont go to anything else in that favorites list.. that's what it was doing earlier before rally really started.. so i don't know if it's a particular FL or the radio or what the hell happened to it

i've been thinking there might be a limit to how many faorites lists there is on the SD Card..? would that be anything i'd be worried about

So you says that it is only P25 that have stopped working? Too bad that the 436 doesn't have a debug mode to log its actions to a file that can be examined. If you enter a P25 frequency manually on the 436 that you could monitor to prior to this loss of reception, do CHAN+frequency+CHAN and listen if you hear the digital signal and it should then switch to digital mode after a second or two.

well it's my P-25 and my DMR trunking that stopped working.. but the DMR conventional stuff i can still receive just fine.. if i go to my one SDTRS_Sturgis list and try to scan that and i am seeing traffic on DSD Plus on my PC my 436hp dont do anything.. its like it's deaf or something

Enter any of the most active trunked voice channels to the display and listen. It should switch to digital mode after a couple of seconds. If that works then check the modulation type in your scan list programming and if the attenuation are enabled. Most common thing for trunked system errors are probably that the needed service type are not enabled. Check also broadcast screen that a frequency range have not been blocked by mistake. What happens if you scan from the database and set your GPS locations?

i dont use attenuation on my radio and the service types are all enabled in my scan lists

You sure about that? There are a number that aren't enabled by default that you'll need for your county (Law Talk, Law Tac, etc). Is traffic heard if you hold onto talkgroups not heard during a scan? If you think you've covered all your bases then you should zip up and post your Sentinel .hpe export as an attachment and post it to this thread so someone can double check your programming

these are my favorites lists that i had built for testing,,,

SDTRS_Sturgis is my oldest one for the Sturgis site
SDTRS_Sturgis_New is my newest list for the Sturgis site
Trunking Discovery is for my emergency list i'm having to use for general scanning of several systems (mainly for SD TRS and West Comm)

unless the cancer care center has electro-magnetic machines or gives off radiation of another type it's sure a mystery to me

I would say the scanner and SD Card has seen high levels of Magnetic from the MRI Machine or even Radiation from the treatment of others.
If you have not tried to install a new Micro SD Card from the store 32GB or smaller.
