It works pretty much exactly as advertised.

Plug it in, tell the scanner what types of stuff you want to monitor, and enable the main database. Set Range to 0 or 5. Drive anywhere in the USA or Canada and you'll hear local traffic.

Fortunately the 536 functions the same as the HP1, I believe, so it makes it much easier.

I'm under the impression the 96 models require a little more attention but I could be wrong.

The thing I'd like to know since I haven't had the chance to try my 536 gps yet is, does the cable stay attached better then it does with the HP? My HP constantly came unplugged, making the ease-of-use/no-hands operation relatively useless.

The connection to the 536 is the cable without the extension. It holds quite well, and it actually has the two screws to hold it in place. Never came loose in all my travels in my truck.

Oh! Awesome! I never even really checked it out yet because I was planning on only keeping it for a base unit.

So the mini plugin isn't being used like the HP? That could change a few things... ;)

Thanks N2M

Mobile models have a DB9 RS232 connector on the back that you would use for GPS.

Thank you UPMan. That's definitely a good thing.

Only problem now is I have to re-think all of my set-ups! ;)

The 536 in my vehicle is connected to a GPS device and works like a charm. The only thing I have to remember is to turn on certain Favorites Lists when I'm on the road and for longer trips, the full database.

It's definitely a homerun feature.

As for sandman's question, my HP1 worked just fine with gps so I'll have to assume the 536 will be just as good if not better. You can't beat that gps function.
