Trying to register my scanner on the Uniden website. There are 14 digits listed in the scanner serial number. The website will only allow me to input 12 digits. I'm not inputting the 'SN'. I've emailed Uniden about this but have never received a response. Any thoughts on how to remedy this problem?

Take note if it's asking for the SN (on the label on the back of the scanner), or the ESN (from the scanner's menu system). Some of the input forms have part of the number already put in for you.

The leading digits are shown on the website before the part you enter. Those never change for that model.

Then maybe you entered the ESN and not the Serial Number. They are different. (SN is shorter)

Usually the issue is people is people entering the wrong thing for upgrades. Those are the ones that are partially pre-filled.

When entering the electronic serial number for the upgrade, the first several characters are already pre-entered and you just enter the remainder of the number. I believe they are above where you enter the ESN.

.
That's the Electronic Serial Number (ESN) 14 digits (along with the 3 digit Checksum).

The Serial Number (SN) 12 digits is on the bar code tag on the back of the scanner.

Observe carefully which one you are being asked to enter, the ESN or the SN.

You will usually be asked for the serial number when you register the scanner, and the electronic serial number (and the checksum) when you are actually purchasing the upgrades.

I have it working now :)
But I noticed that on my BCD436 the ESN number XXX***XXXXXXXX is 14 numbers but if you replace the 4,5,6 number with the letter C its the serial number
and on my BCD536HP the ESN number is XXX***XXXXXXXX is 14 numbers but if you replace the 4,5,6 number with the letter Z its the serial

so HP436HP XXXCXXXXXXXX 12 long serial number
HP536 XXXZXXXXXXXX 12 long serial number anyone else like this or is it just mine?

Everyone is like that. The serial # on the sticker is related to the ESN. But the ESN is embedded in the mother board and upgrades are permanently "attached" in a single radio. If Uniden Repair has to replace the motherboard, they install new permanent keys for what you had installed.

The ESN also includes a checksum in hex digits that doesn't exist on the serial number sticker.

The checksum uses the numbers 0 thru 9 and the letters A thru F. A common error is confusing the number 8 and the letter B.

Correct.. Each hex "digit" equals 4 bits which is 1/2 a byte. Two hex digits = a full byte so for example, FF = 255. The 3 hex digits in the checksum can = any value between 0 and 4095
