By any chance is HOLD flashing on the screen? If it is. you are in System Hold. If that is the case, press the HOLD/RESUME button for about 3 seconds to exit.

hey man , new user from Canada here, had this problem for a couple days. did not see system hold in the manual, will look again
working as expected now. i thought an inappropriate key sequence may have locked things up and i might have to reset and lose all programming. many many thanks
