I have attached an MS Excel 2002 workbook for mapping your BCD996T configuration. I wrote this so that I could post a map of my system, groups and quick keys by my scanner. You are welcome to use this however I will not support it.

There is a sheet named "Setup" where you will need to define the location of your scanner data and configuration name. After that, run the macro named "BuildMap". The macro will read your configuration and system files and organize them according to system, group, etc. After that, you can use the grouping to display only the systems and groups.

Nice work David!

Thanks. Hopefully you were able to figure this thing out put it to use. After using this workbook I was able to fill some holes in my scanner configuration. While I use the UASD software to program my scanner, it does not give you a complete picture of you scanner on a single view.

Pretty cool. Did notice that it seems to only catch one system per SQK.

Is this compatible with the BCD396T?

This would be awesome if it could be adapted to the 396.

I don't have enough Excel macros knowledge to do it.

I tried it just for fun, by I get 'invalid usd file' messages.

Thanks,

Anabella M.

I had not thought of that. This version should correct that problem. After I updated my code, some systems that had not been assigned a system key showed up as well.

I am sure the code could be modified to support the 396. However, I do not own a 396 so I have no way of modifying the code to work with that particular scanner. Perhaps someone else in the forum with a little VBA experience could create a 396 version from my original and post it.

Anyone up to the task? Anyone? Please?

...and to the original author, VERY MUCH THANKS for posting such a useful file in the first place...

I tried running it and I get an error saying "the macros in this project are disabled, Refer to the online help or Documentation of the application......."

Your macro security is set too high.

Tools > Macro > Security... Set it at Medium

That should work.

Much better, I was thinking it was my configuration file. I like the quick expand number tabs too. It opens in Open office ok.

I was wrestling with the spreadsheet for a while yesterday. I have two questions:

1) To what directory should I point it?

Most of the time, when pointing to any UASD directory on my hard drive, I get a "path not found" error.

2) How do I know what filename to point to, and how much of the filename to include?

When putting in a partial filename (just the part to the left of the dot), I get "file cannot be read" or similar. When I put in the whole filename with extension, I get an "unable to open URL" message.

It won't work on the 396 file, we need to modify the macro.

The author stated that he does not have a 396 to make it work on. It's up to someone who knows how to modify the macro to make it work.

Point is to your UASD directory. (See tab 1 and follow the same format).

Point is to your .usc file minus the extension. (Again, see tab 1 and follow the same format).

I wish I could get this to work!

I usually manually type the systems/groups into a spreadsheet, shrink it down and laminate.

I keep this in the car for quick reference.

My path looks like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\UASD_DataBase\BCD996T\

config file is
KEN CUSTOM.usc

I enter as KEN CUSTOM

Path not found.

Any suggestions?

That is the correct path (at least it matches my setup except my user name is not "Administrator"). The macro expects to find the KEN CUSTOM.usc file in a subdirectory named "UASD_config" and the systems referenced in that configuration in a subdirectory named "UASD_systems." If you are using different subdirectories, either name them back to the default or edit the macro to look in your subdirectories (fairly easy to do...just look for "UASD_config" and "UASD_systems" in the macro and change them to what you use).

The file structure should be as follows (hope this appears correct):

BCD996T -- UASD_config
+--------- UASD_locations
+--------- UASD_systems

The you will need to locate and point to the BCD996T folder. The configuration name is the file located in the UASD_config folder without the ".usc".

Just a note to anyone who wants the tackle the 396 version. Uniden's data files are simply comma separated files which can be examined with a simple text editor. A little detective work and you should be able to pick out what the necessary fields are.

So, Open Office supports VBA macros? I have a valid copy of Office XP but I was thinking of trying Open Office if I ever need to upgrade.
