Ok I've been at this for hours! Can anyone who is familiar with the BCD996T teach me how to use it! I believe it's now fully programmed but I don't know why it's not picking up much. I've been messing with it so I'm sure it's something I did :rolleyes: I turn it on and it scans but rarely stops on anything or scans the sub categories?Just the general basics I think. Also I want to set up Group quick keys for talk groups. I want to add each group Ex: Fire, Ems, Police, I'd like to be able to have as much as I can on the police like I-Call and tac channels I can't get on broadcastify. To hear all the details allowed. I have proscan software to use if that helps.

Any takers? :geek::):D

Please reply back with RRDB link(s) to the agencies you're having trouble bringing in so we can rule out potential pitfalls like encryption, simulcast distortion, etc which may hinder your scanning experience. Also the BCD996T doesn't handle P25 Phase-II TDMA talkgroups. Again, please reply back with who you're having trouble bringing in so we can get eyes on the database to see of you have the right tool for the job.

In the meantime, the Easier to read manual for your perusal is linked here. It explains how to set up GQKs and more

Check this site out Mark's Scanners

There's also some You Tube. video as well. I'd start with these Check these out a) covers the BC15 programming systems
is basically similar to the 996T, b + c) show how to program a 996T with Freescan software.

a)

b)

c) - YouTube
Thank you I'll go see

Are you monitoring Lucas County Simulcast or one of the other two non-simulcast sites? If yes to Lucas County then you're likely facing simulcast distortion if you're within range of two or more towers on the simulcast, there are many of them. Read about what it is & mitigation methods to try (may or may not work) in the wiki linked below but ultimately you'd be much better served by a Uniden SDS100 or SDS200 with regards to tracking simulcast systems.

Did you scroll through the talkgroups at the link above to see if what you want to receive is encrypted? If it has DE it's full-time encrypted, De is part-time encrypted and D is not encrypted. No scanner will receive encrypted transmissions. Are you receiving any transmissions on the radio system other than law enforcement?

The system the OP provided is mostly clear. Only a handful of encrypted "DE"s, mostly Tac channels. I wouldn't suspect encryption being the issue, OP should have better luck with an SDSx00 to mitigate simulcast distortion

I assume that's not the same system as in the link? I am in North Carolina and not familiar with Ohio. Did you post anything about this specifically in the Ohio forum? People in Ohio more familiar with the systems there will know about the systems that cover the different areas and their limitations.

...But crossposting is looked down upon here. She'll likely get the same simulcast distortion diagnosis I gave her here if she started a new thread elsewhere. Just sayin

That's when you hit the report button and ask to have the thread moved to the Ohio forum. No crossposting and the issue is handled. Don't worry I did all the hard work for you.
