I just pulled my old 996 out to use again after a few months and the display is stuck on the "Copyright 2006- Uniden America" display. I've switched it off and pulled the plug several times to no avail. Has anyone else had this same problem and were you able to fix it?

Try a factory reset.

  • 1
Rotate the "Power/Vol" knob left to turn off the scanner.
  • 2
Press the "2," "9" and "Hold" keys simultaneously and hold them.
  • 3
Rotate the "Power/Vol" knob right to turn the scanner on while continuing to hold the keys. The display will read, "Restore Preprogram List? Yes=E/No=."
  • 4
Press the "." key. The scanner will then reset itself back to the factory default settings.

That will reset that scanner back to its factory settings.

Great. Thanks Doctordialtone, that worked. It's been sitting on a shelf since I bought an SDS200 .
