I bought a used BCD996XT and noticed while scanning a P25 system that the signal bar has all 5 lines for maybe an hour and then no lines for maybe two minutes and I have changed three antennas tried a Remtronic, telescopic and a outdoor antenna, I had tried the ID priority on and off still the same, Is this how it should operate for a P25 system and what could cause that issue, I don't know if it's this model it has the 1.06 firmware believe it was the last one for this model

Have you looked at the system you are wanting to monitor in the database here to see if it's encrypted? If you see signal bars you're getting a good signal.

That scanner can not pick up phase II P25 let alone simulcast which is in your area for the Palmetto 800 Trunking System.

What P25 system is it? Include state and county also.
The Uniden BCD996P2 is what you will need for the SLED system in SC. Depending on what you want to specifically listen to, it might also be encrypted. Look for DE which means full-time encryption. No scanner will be able to receive those talkgroups.

Neither site in the OP's county (Union) is simulcast. OP needs to clarify system & site(s) being scanned

Palmetto 800 system is listed as a Phase 2 P25 system in the database. The 996XT isn't capable of receiving phase 2 systems. You need at least a BCD996P2 (P2=phase 2) or its handheld cousin the BCD325P2. SDR with the proper software can also decode it.
It says Phase 2 but it's really Phase 1,
Ah, but talkgroups in Union County (and system wide) are FDMA (mode "D") so the 996XT should work just fine on said talkgroups although the system is Phase-II capable. If talkgroups were to transition to TDMA (mode "T") at a later point in time then the 996XT would be rendered useless

On my 996XT on a full bars system it sometimes drops to two bars and back to five and this is what Upman would say is "housekeeping " of the scanner,...The same system sometimes reverts to Phasell and when it does the signal bars stay at five BUT the frequency which is normally 773.33125 changes to 781.5475 and there is NO audio because the 996XT does not recognize P2

Ron, i thought 781 was an input frequency..? or a mistype !
It's the frequency that shows up when my 996XT and RS197 are trying to show a P2 system radio transmission ,....
What specific system & site?
This happens on Grundy County here in Illinois which is on the Illinois Starcom System,...The system is P1and P2 , when a shift uses all P2 radios the Sheriff TGs are all good on the 996P2 but what you see on the 996XT is that 781 frequency with NO audio just sitting there ,....
If you turn Priority on at the "System " and on the TG that's what you see, "P"
