bct- 12 highway information system and scanning

I have this unit but I cant seem to pick up any Highway patrol signals...better yet I same to only pick up a strong singnal from one county Local Police. The date on my instruction book is 19996 does this mean my freq may be out of date anyone knows of these unites made by Uniden I see that they are not sold anymore. BCT-10 and BCT-12 were the on model types made. Thanks

Welcome to Radioreference Force1.

You may want to "open" the squelch until you hear noise and then turn it the opposite way until it just closes again and see it that helps. (The knob other side of the case opposite the volume control.)

Also I'd recommend an external antenna other than the supplied one.

There have been a lot of radio system changes in the last 13 years. It is very probable that the HP no longer uses the same system
