I purchased this scanner a few months ago. I have been to site, after site, after site trying to learn the ins and outs of this scanner. I am pretty sure that I CANNOT scan anything via the state's 880MHz system, I could be wrong. If so, I have pulled what little hair I have out trying to program this thing. I've tried using FreeScan and I've tried doing it manually. I was reluctant to post anything, but most everything I have learned has come from this site and it's members. If someone could shed some light on this difficult, but I'm sure usual "Newcomer Problem", I would greatly appreciate it.

You are correct - the 15X is an analog scanner - you need a (unfortunately more expensive) digital trunktracker.

The good part is that FreeScan and USB cable works with any of the DMA digitals - The 996T, 996XT, 396T or 396XT. Here is a wiki article that lists all the digital models - just click on the model number from the list.
