I have a BCT15X that is not quite a month old (purchased new). For about a week or so, when I have it on I will occasionally hear faint static coming from the unit while it is on, but not actively hearing a frequency. The static almost sounds like someone has an open mic, but again it isn't actually hearing anything at those moments. It can be scanning or held on a frequency, volume at any level, squelch at 2. I'll hear the static for a second or two, then it breaks briefly, then I hear it again.

I have it set up on my desk using the provided bracket in a custom stack with my SDS200 which does not exhibit the same issue. Powered using the factory 120 wall wart. I typically have it connected via USB to my Surface Pro running ProScan, but this seems to happen whether the USB cable is connected or not.

Does anybody know what might be causing this?

Are you using the supplied antenna?

Yep. Tried to think of all the various things people would ask and forgot that one haha. And since I can't edit the original post, even when the volume is set to zero I can often still hear the static.

I would take it for a ride and see if the noise occurs away from the house to rule that out.

If it still happens, I'd send it back.

Reason I am asking is because you have not ruled out every single thing on your desk that produces EMI (could even be that SDS200). If it was a solidly implemented remote antenna installation, I would have no follow-up. Just because you have zeroed the volume doesn't mean that the EMI can't get into the speaker after that circuit.
