I just bought a BCT 8 and programed (using the uniden software) the trunk freqs and ID's for Prince William County VA. The scanner is scanning properly and when it stops on a freqency it displays the id but i don't hear voices I hear a loud tone. The tone sounds on every ID is stops on. The squelch is set in the middle. Prince William is a Motorola Type II smartzone. The BCT 8 setting is only Motorola Type II 800. Any suggestions. I think I have programmed it correctly but I get the tones instead of actual voices.

Any help would be great

Which talkgroup?
Even though the system itself is Motorola Type II, a number if the Sheriff's talkgroups are marked as "D", for digital. Note that under system voice, it says "Analog and APCO-25 Common Air Interface". So you may be trying to hear one of the digital ones, which the BCT 8 won't handle.

Thanks for the info. I just completely overlooked that. I'm not used to the codes yet and since you mentioned it, it makes sense. I guess I will need to decide on a digital unit or not. Again, Thanks,

Jeff
