We recently bought a bct8 scanner because our local police changed to the 800 system. Now it says when I look up the frequncies that they have a high band patch and only fire can be picked up. Does that mean I am out of luck in trying to get the Mesa AZ police dept? Any way to get it? New to this, can you tell? Help!! Thanks to all!

Looking at the database it appears as though Mesa is dispatching over a combined Apco-25 Digital 800 Mhz system shared with County & Phoenix.

The BCT8 is not a digital scanner which is required to pick up P-25 digital signals.

So now that the PD and probably soon the FD is/will move over to the new county-wide system your scanner will become more and more silent.

Sorry.

If you want to hear those digital systems you'll have to upgrade to a digital scanner. There are a few on the market: The Handhelds: Radio Shack Pro-96, Uniden BC296D and due out late summer the BCD396T. The mobiles: Pro-2096 & BC796D. Those are your choices. Mostly they are selling for $500 + new, but you can watch ebay and usually pick up a used one for around $400 or so. Good Luck.

i have a bct8 and no it will not pick up digital signals, thats what the problem is, if you really must listen to pd, then u need to get a digital-capable scanner. other then being non-digital, i love the bct8 course theres no digital usage within 100miles so i dont have to worry about it.
