I have a Bearcat 780xlt. I am trying to program my fire department’s frequency in it. The frequency is 156.14250. When I put it in and hit enter it takes the frequency as 156.140. I keyed up my fire department radio and it didn’t pick it up. why is it doing this and what can I do to hear the frequency.

This scanner being an older model was made prior to these narrow band frequency assignments.

You should still be able to receive it with your scanner a little off frequency.

Try changing the default step size from 5 kHz to 7.5 kHz...

When programming the freq via the menu, you should see a series of numbered selections, starting with 1. Frequency... item 6 on that menu is the step size. There's a manual for the 780 floating around online for the exact procedure, but if you can program the freq, you can do this.

What lebrunmn said.....
when you keyed up your FD radio were you in the room with the 780xlt? Really good chance you blanked out the receiver if you were! You can check it by calling someone at the station and having them throw out a call....the 780xlt is an oldie, but goodie, and the receiver can't take the overload...

I made a post before about a bearcat 780xlt. That was not the right one I mistyped. I have a Bearcat 760 XLT. I am trying to program my fire department’s frequency in it. The frequency is 156.14250. do you have a PL/CTCSS programed in with it ?
and at 2,500 Hz off frequency, that is literally a whistle away.
the narrow FM vs regular old FM means the volume would be lower.
