Scanner frequency changes when I enter it.

Hoping somebody can help me out with this.. Programming my scanner, I run into this problem hardly ever. 3-4 times I have entered a scanner frequency, and when I hit enter, that frequency changes. For instance, I enter 151.49750, yet, it stores 151.5000. Why is this? Why won't it let me change it?

Welcome to the forums. First off, you need to tell us what make & model scanner so we can tell you how to change step size

151.5000 is most likely the correct frequency, 151.49750 is SO close to 151.5000 it shouldn't make any difference in reception. In fact I don't think151.49750 is correct to begin with. Where did you get it from?

It absolutely is a valid frequency. Why not take a few seconds to research it before posting?

Thank you.. I was afraid you were going to say that :). It's just an old BC60xlt-1. Looking through the manual I couldn't find a way to change the step size.. I remember years ago someone saying on a forum somewhere, to program in a frequency that would land on the correct one in a thread for someone else. I never seen the outcome of that.

29.7–50 MHz VHF Low Band
50–54 MHz 6 Meter Amateur Band

Above bands in 5 kHz steps

406–420 MHz Federal Government

it says step size and nothing about changing it. you got that right.

151.5 isn't a valid allocation in the US. 151.49, 151.4975, 151.505 are.

Lowband 600 channel system:
The lowest frequency, designated channel 0, is 138.025MHz. The channels are 25kHz apart. The highest frequency, designated channel 600, is 153.0MHz.
The Groom system used to be on 151.5MHz, which would correspond to channel 540.

Midband 1600 channel system:
The lowest frequency, designated channel 0, is 154.005MHz. The channels are 5kHz apart. The highest frequency, designated channel 1600, is 162MHz.

Highband 1920 channel system:
The lowest frequency, designated channel 0, is 162.00625MHz. The channels are 6.25KHz apart. The highest frequency, designated channel 1920, is 174MHz."

This is interesting.. :) I'm just not sure how to apply everything else to what I'm looking for. It would be a bummer to have to wait an be abducted.

Yes, I have tried it both ways. Zero, no zero. Same result.

You don't hear anything on 151.500 Mhz? If there is a signal on 151.4975 try what wtp suggested, they should all work.

Sounds good. I'll program all 3 in and see if I get a hit. I guess if I do, I'll narrow to the one with the best reception. Sure is weird though. Like a glitch. Kinda like side band or something.

That slightly off frequency thing is very common on scanners.
