many many many volunteer stations - I assume they all use pagers - dont usually see sirens on the stations

Yep, I love to use Bergen as a great example of everything that's 'wrong' with NJ.

A county with about the same square mileage as Somerset County. Somerset has 21 municipalities. Bergen has 70 (thanks to borough-itis in the 19th century) and at one point had 71 separate law enforcement agencies. I usually finish the joke off with a request that the person I'm talking with go and search South Hackensack Twp on Wikipedia & look at the map of the town...
