I prefer the WS1080 or the TRX-1. The reasons include better decoding of Capacity Plus type system without having to get too technical with programming. Also, both decode DMR simplex mode flawlessly with my experience. I have no such luck decoding DMR simplex mode with the Uniden scanners. However, Uniden scanners are designed to properly trunk track all types of DMR systems if programmed correctly. The Whistler ones follow the frequency with voice conversations, but won't correctly trunk track on a busy system. I have had no such issues with tracking in trunk mode with the Whistler scanners. There are a few threads on the DMR trunking that address this.

BCD436/536, SDS100/200 and TRX1 all do a fine job.

Definitely not the AOR DV10, doesn't even indictate the slot # or allow it to be programmed into a memory channel to distinguish between different users on the same frequency, just displays the color code.

Welcome to Radio Reference!

What DMR systems are you interested in monitoring? You have listed your location as Wakefield, what state is that in?

There's a bug in the firmware in BCDx36HP scanners that if you have digital threshold set to manual it will not decode DMR simplex. It works fine if set to auto. SDS100 struggles with simplex, it can take 10-30sec of received data carrier before it actually starts to decode DMR simplex.

Whistlers TRX scanners needs the squelch to not detect any signal before it receives a DMR simplex data carrier. It will lock itself to the first received mode, probably analog in most cases, and will not switch to DMR simplex when it is received.

Connect Systems CS580. Not only scans, although a little slow, but has the ability to find color code and time slot. A single press of a button and it enters the data into the radio memory for further use. The scan range can be set for a segment of the band for the type of service you want, commercial or ham.

If you can let us know your location, and the specific agencies you would like to monitor, we can advise much better on which scanner would be best for you in your location, and the types of transmissions being used there (busy trunked DMR systems, simulcast, etc.).

Whistler TRX series. They do a far better job in monitoring DMR than the current crop of Uniden scanners in my view. DMR Tier III monitoring is also no problem despite what those naysayers say about no true trunk tracking. I quite frankly get sick of all the Whistler bashing in these forums as I feel it's totally misplaced.
