Hi All,

I had a Pro-106 that has stopped working, and I am looking for a new scanner. Between the BCD396XT, BCD436HP or the Pro 651 which is overall the best? I will be using it to monitor 30 talkgroups on a Phase I system.

Thanks in advance

That really depends on your specific system. Some models work better on some systems, and others better on others.

What stopped working on the 106?

like suggests, check witrh ac power, maybe you can take the batteries out ande go with ac only. Something small, I am sure. The 436 scanner does type 1 and type 2, over kill for you at this moment, though in the scanner world, this can change anytime. All depends on the salesman visiting the city council. I am partial to the 396xt. The GRE 500 or the 106 are fine scannewrs too though I have never figured out a way to generate a number tag assignment with the GRE500 or the 106. A nice feature with ther 396xt, where you assign a number to a frequency orf talk group then you can quickly navigate to the assigned number. Sort of like the old days of going to channel xx. .

Every object programmed into a PSR-500/PRO-106 has an object ID that can be used to go directly to a channel.

Never used one - but if I had 8000 UID, 9000 TG and a few hundred conventional freqs - they all would have a ID? What is the upper limit?

As you can only have 1800 objects in a folder, you will never have 8000 UIDs or 9000 TGs.

But yes, all 1800 objects would have an ID.

I don't , but I've seen Uniden owners say they reached the favorite limits with UId's in the 1000's.

I would not like the 1800 folder limit.

- how would one ever keep track of them on anyway -

I have around 10,000 UIDs in my x36 models. (granted, that IS in the "1000's") :D

BCD396/996XT gets my vote from use of all three. GRE PSR 800 would be my vote had you mentioned it!

Would the GRE PSR 800 be a good upgrade from a RS PRO 96? I need a scanner that will scan P25 phase 1.

The 96 does Phase I - just not 700 MHz.

The Whistler WS-1040/PSR-500/PRO-106 would be the next step up from the PRO-96.

The PSR-800 has no keypad for direct entry or bank enable/disable. You may find the loss disappointing.

OK, thanks. I would find the loss of those buttons disappointing. I cannot get my 96 to scan Waterbury, CT and I figured that it was the scanner. I'll keep trying different settings. Thanks for the clarification.
