To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Looking for a good reputable Unication Dealer, or buy from Unication direct.
Also if anybody can provide any feedback on Unication G4 vice Uniden SDS on P25 Phase II Simulcast only.

@w2lie Phil is awesome. Reach out to him if you are seriously considering a G4. I believe he also has good holiday promotions going on.

People will also say Ray's Pager Sales. Nothing against them, from what I understand it's a very reputable dealership also. Nice to have options.

As far as SDS vs Unication I will repeat what I have said before.

If I only care about listening to one system, Unication G4 all day. If I want flexibility, SDS. Will the G4 out perform the SDS? Yes, but really it's only going to be in fringe areas.

The SDS was built for scanning - you have tools like discovery, can listen to more than one band, etc. For that it works great.

If you only listen to one system for 90% or so of your listening, the G4 is tough to beat with form factor, battery, and features while monitoring a single system. Yes I get they are working on multi-system, but so far the results have been sort of meh and multi-system scanning regardless of Unication, SDS, or even a top-teir Motorola APX is a meh experience as it is since you can't really stay parked on two control channels at the same time.

Correct P25 Phase II Simulcast system with 2 sites, will use mainly in the car, will pop it in the charger in home. Broward County FL to be specific. I already have an SDS200 and 996P2 to deal with non-simulcast systems.

If you already have an SDS200, you are probably going to prefer having a G4 just to listen to Broward, especially if most of what you are listening to is on the system. Once you have your lists dialed in and all the personalities set up, it's really hard to beat having something you can throw on your hip, and go.

Ray's Pager Sales. I have bought three through him. Very fast shipping, nice promotions and very well versed on the use and programming.

Unication dealers are nothing like Uniden dealers.

Unication has requirements for dealers and set their responsibilities. It so very unlikely that any of us will find a bad one.

Uniden requires dealers to follow minimum advertised pricing.

For the G4 when you say one system, does that mean one control channel or site? The specific system I will park the G4 one has 3 simulcast sites with 3 control channels.
Your description is one system. They all have the same system ID. Funny how you are making your own thread drift. ;)

The G4 and G5 are the same exact radios as far as 7/800 MHz is concerned. The G5 just adds VHF/UHF, if desired. I have one G4 and one G5. No difference when listening to systems on 7/800 MHz. And I agree, Rays Pager's is top notch and the pagers are indeed awesome.

I'll chime in for Ray's Pager Sales. I bought 3 Unications from him (all separate purchases). Extremely responsive. He is also very active on the Unication Facebook groups.

I should also add, I don't think I've ever heard anything bad about any of the Unication dealers, so you probably won't go wrong with any of them.

Ray at Ray's pager has been an awesome communicator and support. Purchased my G5 and amp charger from him last year.
I enjoy the quality sounds of local P25P2 and DMR systems. My go to unit without needing to adjust filters or settings.

Jim,

I live in south Miami Dade. I recently purchased a G5 from Ray's and can tell you he is great to deal with. Takes calls and replies quickly to emails. I spoke with him for a while and he took the time to explain some things to me. I highly recommend him.

As for the G5 vs SDS on the Broward P25 system, I can say that they both track the system very well and both sound great. But I think that the G5 does a little better job as it appears to be more sensitive. For example, I was in driving into Miami Dade (from Broward) and the G5 kept up with the Broward system well south of MIA airport. The SDS100 began to go intermittent around the same time.

I programmed each of the Broward sites as individual/separate systems in my G5. I don't think all of the sites carry the same traffic all the time. At least that was my initial experience that may change as the transition moves forward. For example, I was recently monitoring the Alligator Alley site and didn't seem to carry the same traffic that the main site did. So I purposely programmed all 3 sites separately in order to avoid having the G5 "lock" onto one of the other less busy sites.
