To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have quite a few g4 beta units. Look like final betas. Anyone know how to program model numbers in to them so they will program with current PPS? There has to be a way. They work, they track, I can program a system and then FW upgrade to 1.33 and they work, I just can't edit or turn on TG hold/block because PPS says they're too old. Any ideas? I'd hate to just part them down when I can give them to family members to listen to. Not looking to resell but open to someone on here that is interested in tinkering. I wouldn't stand behind it as "reliable" and that's the only way I would sell a used unication unit.

Well, I reached out to Unication, and basically got the cold shoulder. Even though the hardware seems like it would work, it's being blocked due to not having a model number burned in to the unit. So PPS won't program. So, does anyone need any parts? ANY parts? Speakers, USB ports, knob assemblies, screens, housings.

Anyone in to ethical exploiting?

@LilTeddyP just out of curiosity, why can't you continue to use the Beta FW and PPS? There must be someone with an older PPS that would work, but I don't know, hence why I'm asking.

They will work up to FW 1.1

But 1.1 doesn't sound great, and doesn't have TG hold/block. I use these as scanners. And hold/block in my area (Ingham County MPSCS) is almost necessary if you want to follow something. I COULD make them work by programming all the TGIDs to knob 1 then the individual TGIDs to other knobs and change knobs when I want to "hold", but it's just not ideal, and not what I want to teach my mom, dad, and brother to do. I want them to be able to turn it on, then press hold or block. They don't need to do much else lol

Ideally, I would program them like my other ones with police on 1, ems on 2, schools on 3, etc.

There is a way to change pager model numbers, but AFAIK only Uni techs can do it. They plug in to a piece of software kinda like PPS, click a button, and its done in a few seconds. Technically, that's what enabling DMR does.

If Uni won't help, I'd prob just part them out, sell, or toss them. (kinda surprised they don't want them back?) Even if there was a way, with a lot of work, for you to change model #'s, I don't know if the hardware can even run their newer firmware. You might go through a lot of effort only to brick or boot loop them.

They didn’t seem very interested in helping over the email. I get it. Old equipment that was never really meant to be in regular circulation and they just don’t want to deal with it. I know there has to be a way. They take 1.33, I just can’t program them. Maybe they’re not stable, idk. I’d be willing to take the risk. If I could just get model numbers in them.

They won’t get tossed. I’d part them down or offer case swap services for peoples beat up ones. But never trash lol

You cant run new firmware on old hardware. That is why manufacturers come out with new firmware to keep up with the current hardware. The beta device might not have even been operational. It could only be for proof of concept.

Reading > you. They work. Up to 1.1

Furthermore, they will accept 1.33 but will not program with PPS due to no model number.

Did you try the FuntionUp Conventional software thats was used to upgrade a pager to DMR?
It requires 1.1 to work so it might work for you

There is a Facebook group Unication G-Series Voice Pager users (G1-G2-V3...) that on November 5th a user stated that the programmer in his shop used a version of programming software from Taiwan to program a beta version. You may want to try to contact that person if you are a Facebook user and see if they mind sharing the software.

That was for the yellow prototypes. I have one of those on the way too but this is a different circumstance. These are final betas. They are g4s. All the same outside parts. Maybe a little different inside. I’ll do a more in Seth tear down eventually to find differences in retail/beta/prototype.

When programming (non-beta) G4 models, the software did not have the actual model numbers of the units I was programming. I would select one off the list that matched. I never had that fight with firmware updates.

Update: These things work. They work great. I can program a system with 1.1, then FW update to 1.33 and they sound great. I can't reprogram without downgrading them, reprogramming them, then upgrading them back up to get the audio quality. So that's a PITA. Only thing I'm missing is the ability to enable tgid hold/block. I use these as scanners, not as a pager, so that is paramount when trying to follow something going on. The only way to enable that is with PPS and they won't program with the newer PPS to enable it:rolleyes:

No ideas on how to program a model number?
