• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I'm not running it yet, in part because the release notes make it sound like a pretty niche fix.

I'm running 5.5.0p with RES 5.8.8. BK tech support said the firmware will work fine with 5.8.8 or 5.8.9.

After a month with the BKR5000.....I'm impressed! No toggles, so you have to program 2 of the buttons to do SCAN and PRIORITY...pretty easy. The RES 5.5.9 software is the newest. You can download your KNG portable and then upload it right to the BKR 5000.
BK is still working on a clam shell and a vehicle charger for it.
You can look at my YouTube channel for my unboxing and review.
We are having a Dealer Summit this Wed. so I'll update the Group if there's anything coming down the pike.

I look forward to hearing if they will have a continuous channel knob. I think that will be the make or break for me..

KNG2 (and maybe others) new firmware out
4/13/21 firmware 5.5.0q
3/19/21 RES editor 5.8.14

"Added 0‐9,*,# to the list of programmable softkeys. Users can now program these keys to whatever functions they wish."

I'll have to think about how to make use of that.

My BK experience ended with the DPH/DMH line, but I have been watching their latest offerings with interest. One question that I cannot get figured out is how BK handles trunking ASKs.

I am an ASK holder for our state system (hardware and software), but it is only compatible with Motorola (Maybe that is incorrect however).

How difficult is it to get a BK ASK created?

It’s not hard. If you have legit rights of programming and management then you can contact BK and they can create one.

Awesome! Thank you.

Everyone around here uses VHF/800 systems, so dual-band is almost a necessity. Until recently, that has basically been the APX line (I know Harris has an offering but I've never even seen one in the flesh). But if the 9K ends up working well, I could see a lot of agencies wanting to snap them up. Might be a good time to start servicing BK stuff again.
