Blount County Fire seems to have switched over to the TACN system. I'm hearing them on TACN and not simulcasting with their UHF analog frequency 453.100. Let me know if you are hearing anything different.

They are on TACN and Blount EMS are also. They are all using the same encryption keys as the sheriffs dept. I have everything in my radio. When I am not at work I will listen and see if I hear anything.

You're right on both accounts. Fire just went live on the TACN system in the past couple of weeks.

I recently found out that Blount AMR has the channels for other Blount County agencies programmed into its radios but apparently does not have their encryption keys, so anytime those agencies have encryption turned on or switch to “private,” Blount AMR cannot hear anything. At the same time, Blount AMR apparently has one or two of Knox County’s law enforcement and other agency ADP encryption keys along with those agencies’ channels, which makes for a pretty strange setup unless something has changed within the last couple of months. TWRA apparently has the Blount County encryption key now, although they used to have the same issue as AMR and could not hear encrypted traffic. It may have something to do with the fact that someone at RMFD used to handle AMR’s radio programming for both Blount and Knox back when they were part of the same company. Apparently, the Sheriff’s Office is now handling Blount County Fire’s radio installations and programming under a signed agreement. Hopefully that changes and Blount AMR will get Blount’s encryption keys loaded into their radios.

When I programmed my radio I just made a Blount county zone with all law enforcement, fire and ems and force encryption on all TG’s. Everything is working great.

As a retired Firefighter EMT I see no reason for EMS to have LAW Encryption Keys they have coms with them no need to hear the other.
I would say as long as they have another channel they could go to talk to each other in each other's radios, I'm fine with that. Otherwise, I come from a very rural area of the USA where fire, EMS and police all had each other's frequencies and used them. It's knowing WHEN to use them and being professional that matters.

I come from an area where Law Enforcement Dispatch is in a separate building from Fire Dispatch and EMS Dispatch is in a different town.
And the old standing Policy was if we need to know call the other Dispatcher.
Now it is City Police Dispatch is in a different building than County Sherrif Dispatch, and all other County Agencies go through a County 911 Dispatch Center. No were did not share frequencies until about 10 years ago but still the Law Enforcement does not share Talkgroups or Keys but they do have a Mutual Aid Talkgroup.

That's the same thing I'm talking about, @buddrousa. That's why everyone had each other's frequencies added. I moved from the area 12 years ago, and the county just went to a trunked system a couple of years ago, so things might have changed.

Not to mention they are reading this most likely. We know for a fact many states have their folks dedicated to our DB and forums.
