Blount County municipal police departments have been using an encrypted P25 channel for a long time but the Sheriff has alway used a conventional frequency. However, over the last few days I’ve not been able to hear any radio traffic on the Sheriff conventional frequency. Does anyone know if they have gone over to the encrypted P25 system as well?

It appears per the database that the SO has moved to encryption on vhf now. I usually monitor them as well, and have not heard anything on the VHF frequency lately. Fire is the only thing in the open as of now.

the org poster needs to clearify if this is blount co al or blount co tenn

simply because:
As long as i can remember and when i worked in blount co on the amublance.
The cities in Blount Co AL, never had their own dediicated police channels.
In the ambulance we had a vhf radio. All law enforcement was dispatched on the sheriff's main channel (155.685 ) .
A secondary channel (155.865).Also the old southern linc units called linc when dispatch refered to them.
Each city police department has a assigned block of numbers ie 100-200 was the sheriff's 400-500 was oneonta police and so on.
When they were moving to a.i.r.s they prob had a patch from vhf to 800. Untill all departtments got the 800 radios.
But when all departments went fully online with 800 radios the patch was taken down.

Conventional channels can use encryption.

Being as those 2 counties are 4 hours apart, and because the OP posted in Alabama forum, and because the OP does not have any posts in the Tennessee forum, I am going out on a limb to say he is speaking of Alabama. :sneaky:
