Okay today at 1821hrs i heard zionsville medics and fire talking halfway thrrough the converstation one of them said switch to talkaround? what is it? is it a conventional system i am confused thanks

Most likely one of the NPSPAC 800 MHz conventional interoperability channels. Radios on SAFE-T should have both simplex (direct radio-to-radio) and conventional repeater programming for these frequencies in one of the zones in the radio, as there are 800 MHz conventional repeaters at SAFE-T sites throughout the state. All use PL 156.7, with the exception of one using PL 192.8. If you want to try to listen to them, the repeater outputs are the same as the simplex channels.

You probably won't be able to hear simplex traffic on the NPSPAC channels because of the very short range of 800 MHz portables, unless you are very close by.
