Hey. I am just wondering if any of the border patrol frequencies are all encrypted for zone 640 (buffalo) sector. I haven't heard any voice activity on 163.625. Are they digital, or operate under Apco -25

The 163.675, 123.0 repeater from Bristol has been quiet for a few months now.

I have no idea where they went.

Thanks mike. I used to here them a while back. I believe i could hear them talk to St lawrence county, and jefferson county sherrifs department going by "Oscar unit, or Whiskey Unit" on the sherrifs county frequency. 155.115 and 154.755

That doesn't account for the silence on the Bristol repeater. Even digital and encrypted signals can be heard on a conventional analog scanner - they just sound like a lot of noise. People in WNY are hearing nothing at all.

Detroit Border crossing area switched from analog to digital last year, and they're still up on the same repeater 163.625 and running P25 unencrypted. Still consistent traffic over here, plus they make some use of radios and talkgroups on the Michigan 800 MHz system (also in the clear). Possibly they just changed up some of the frequencies in that area?

I have heard analog traffic on 163.675 about three times in the past few months. Maybe they are using Nextels? 163.675 is not as busy as it was acouple of years ago you could hear units from Watertown to Buffalo talking to 680 Buffalo.

I agree that 680-Buffalo is no where near as busy as it used to be - which I listen to on the 163.625 repeater out of Watertown. Interesting note is that once the BP went digital and encrypted up North in St Lawrence County (640-Swanton area) the freq(s) have become busier.

I have heard B.P. / I.C.E use NYSP, 154.665 PL 110.9, 155.565 PL 79.7, 155.370 and NYSP F1 quite often hear in North East N.Y.. They go by the callsign Charlie _ _.

But on all the old frequencies all I hear is noise and OTAR.

Mike, I am over in ontario near kingston, and could here the border patrol few years ago talk quite frequently on the repeater near Watertown, but very seldomly now. "i believe they go by whiskey units for watertown, and Oscar units for Ogdensburg" cause a few months ago i heard them talk with state police and jefferson county sherrifs dept on the sherrifs dept frequency looking for a specific vehicle that crossed the border, but thats the only time basically heard anything significant, Be it as it may seem, theres more traffic definetly on swanson sector (640) , due to its encryption. I have heard that there is an IBET interoperatability between radio systems with BP and RCMP in canada, whether it is linked or not remains to be scene, but i have read articles that indicate they have tried it in a few areas, and want to progress on it.

Yes, the Border Patrol in the 680 Sector sure has gotten quieter, Jay. I have no clue if they're using new freqs, or relying more on Nextel (which I have heard of them using and mentioning over the .625 repeater). Whiskey is Watertown, you're right.

Not to get off subject Jay, PM me and let me know if there's any APCO-25 systems that are "in the clear" over that way that I can fine tune a radio in on. Thanks.
