Recently I’ve been hearing random “beeps” or some sort of short burst of tone for maybe half a second on the Boston EMS conventional tactical channels. Never on the main dispatch channel. Some days I hear it all day I have to avoid the channels and other days I don’t hear it all. Sometimes I hear similar noises on the Boston FD fire ground channels. Does anyone know what these noises are? Or maybe confirm is not just me hearing them?

On the BFD channels you are probably hearing the preamble we use since the portables are operating in mixed mode

It's likely Tactical Public Safety feature in the Motorola radios. Not dissimilar to what FDNY uses on their fireground accountability platform. P25 signaling for ID's and analog voice. It's mixed as the pre-id is probably TPS and the post is MDC1200 for comptability across systems. I'm just guessing though without the audio sample........

edit to add:
here's an example of the FDNY sound to see if it's similar to what you are hearing....................
