BPR 40 Problem

I have 11 MagOne BPR 40's for my business. 2 of them are having problems and I'd love to be able to fix them myself if possible. The first one always has the green light on and, while it will send transmissions, it won't receive transmissions. The second one will function normally for a bit, but will then make a loud static noise for a few seconds before going quiet again. Then it repeats the cycle again and again until you go insane. Any idea on what I could do to fix these problems myself? Thank you.

yes stop buying cheap radios. i work for a casino that uses them and we have the most problems with them. i have been trying to get my manager to buy us some Motorola CP200D so we can use digital and have better radios. look you need to buy a better radio them the mag one. there not a good radio it works for a few mouths and then it starts to crap out on you fast. i use the xpr6550 cuz i got in to a fight at work and my mag one did not even get my call for help out. then when i said i need a better radio, the mag one will get you or some one you work with killed

I'm going to have to politely disagree with ssdsam2 with his take on the BPR40. Depending on your application the BPR40 is a decent, not the best radio, but decent radio. And I know of three separate casinos in my area that use TRBO products and can't stand them. In fact one casino got rid of their TRBO system and went another direction.

Based solely on your it comment it sounds like you may have a programming issue. With that said I have a couple of questions.

Have the radios always done this since you took delivery of them, or have these issues recently developed?

Do you do your own programming, or do you contract with a local vendor to program the radios?

These two radios have been sitting in my storage for a few years, but I do not remember either of these having problems in the past. I've also recently cloned them (and a few others) from my working radios, thinking it may just be a programing problem, but that didn't help those 2. I have CPS R02.02 but I've never actually used it.

Old batteries maybe acting up? Try swapping the batteries with a known working radio. Mark the suspect batteries first so you can keep track of them.

Good point - batteries. If they're that old it's probably a good idea to replace them first and see what happens. If not, then it could be a programming issue.

The green light & poor receive problem on BPR40's is well known. There are capacitors in the receive circuit that go belly up quite often, resulting in what you see.

Cost to repair by a flat-rate shop is about $85-100 per radio. Could do it yourself for less if you have soldering skills and time.

In my opinion, save your money & put it into a better radio.
