• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,

We are working on programming new BPR40d and have run into a read issue.

We have the proper CPS direct from the Motorola web site, "BPR 40d CPS, R02.03" and are using two programing cables; one USB direct to 2.5mm cables from BlueMax49ers and one older Motorola USB to Serial 9pin <-> 9 pin to 2.5mm.

Any time we try to read we get the following error "No device detected. Please check the connection and try again".

  • We have double checked com ports.
  • We have tried two different cables.
  • We have tried two different computers.
  • We have uninstalled CPS and reinstalled CPS.
  • We have tried multiple radios.
  • We have tried the old Analog BPR40 trick of Programming Button 1

Any advice on working with BPR40d?

1. Turn radio off.
2. Hold down programmable button 1.
3. Turn on radio and listen for 3 beeps.
4. Release P1, LED should be green.
5. Now read and write as you wish.

We shall see shortly. Apparently there is a different cable for the "d" model. It is the same cable as the CP185 programming cable.

Since we don't do a lot of work with Motorola's, the learning curve is steep! I don't even want to talk about CP200 firmware upgrades just to get the digital license entitlement to load! The MOL forum vs the My View forum??? How do Motorola dealers/techs keep up with this?

Do you have the proper drivers for your USB cable installed? You may have to download specific drivers if you have an aftermarket cable.

I’ve done this multiple times on my CP185 but it does absolutely nothing. The only feature that it does anything is when I hold down P1 on the front and turn it on, the radio says master for a few seconds and then switches to time out and does nothing. Not sure what the problem is but I can’t get it to read the radio and I’ve tried 4 or 5 different cables.

Did you ever get this resolved? I just received a Bearcom BC300D which is clone of the BPR40d and I'm running into the same issue with it. Thanks for any insight.
