If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So I'm having a strange programming issue with the XPR series, and before I throw in the towel and buy all Hytera, I figured I'd give this a shot.

I cannot get an XPR mobile to work with CPS 16.0. I've tried 2 radios, 3 cables (legit cables), 2 computers and alas nothing is working.

My Windows 10 machine will recognize the radio, and it will show up as a network device, however with a yellow triangle and error 1689 in CPS. Here is the kicker, my portable XPR cable, hook it up and wham, got a connection, will read and write no problem, however the mobiles, nothing.

Tried my Windows 7 computer for fun, nothing, doesn't even act like it anything is plugged in. Same thing, plug in the portable cable and radio, no issues.

Plug in any other device into USB, no problems. I have re-installed drivers, the entire software package, on both computers with absolutely no luck. Now normally I would chalk this up to a bad radio, but it's both of my mobiles, which I find interesting. I even tried a rear of radio XPR cable. Same thing.

So apparently I'm an idiot and I'm missing something, or I'm having really bad luck, either way any help would be appreciated.

Also glad you mentioned trying the rear cable. I've had multiple times that front one doesn't work. I have two older XPR 4580s and I can't program them. I have a friend that has an OLDER and I mean older version of CPA 16 on a windows XP machine and I have him do those two. I also have newer XPR 5580s that I have to use 2.0 on.

Error 1698 says you are not making a network connection to the radio. That can be caused by a few different things. Check (in order):

Did the driver load? If the radio appears in the Unknown Devices tree in Windows Device Manager, then you need to make sure the CPS is installed on this PC or, at the very least, the driver files.

Are you using a USB 3.0 port? These are known to be quirky so try a USB 2.0 port to eliminate this as a cause. USB 3.0 ports will have blue insulator material - USB 2.0 ports are black.

Can you ping the radio? Since the radio is seen as a network connection by Windows, you can ping it. By default the IP address of the radio is 192.168.10.1

If someone changed the default IP address of your radio, you could have a network conflict. Try re-starting the computer with all other cables unplugged and wireless networks turned off.

I know some have had to disconnect their network cable in order to see the radio.
