Just doing a bit of reprogramming, and I've come across the "dispatch" channels for Brampton Fire. In the RR database, they are labeled "Dispatch 2XX" (one for each fire hall). I don't think I've ever heard anything from any of these talkgroups. What is the point of them and are the necessary to have in a scanner?

Thanks!

If you're using a scanner, you'll never hear anything on them. They multi-select the dispatch talkgroup with the station talkgroup when dispatching a call. Scanners will always see this show up on the regular dispatch (OPS5) talkgroup. If you were using a 'real' radio, you'd see it on the others as well.

Do GRE scanners have the same bug that Uniden scanners have?

If not, then a GRE scanner could sit on the Station talkgroup and hear only that station.

Uniden scanners won't hear a thing unless they've fixed that bug in the 396XT.

I don't believe either the GRE or the new 396XT has addressed this issue. I had posted awhile back in the 396XT thread about this - Paul (UPMan) said they aren't able to do it. No idea why though - it doesn't seem like rocket appliances!

They've fixed the problem with the 396XT. Calls being dispatched can be heard on "OPS 5", as well as on the individual station dispatch channels. Gives you the option of just hearing the calls for your station if you want....

I always wondered why I never hear anything previously on those channels with my older 396T. Now I know why! :)
