6 people are confirmed dead now...

"A local law enforcement employee went on a shooting rampage early Sunday in remote northern Wisconsin, killing at least five people, authorities said."

I`m glad police in Norway don`t carry guns in basic patrol-duty.

There is a lot of crime in Norway, homicide, burglury, robberies, but all in all its a nice country to live in.
Police do have guns in theyr cars, but are not alowed to carry them in an situation, unless the police chief says thats its OK. If it`s an burglury-alarm at a bank they dress up with helmets and guns, but not in the regular patrol-duty.

Talk about a suicide mission!

You would have to be a nut case to do patrol work anywhere unarmed.

Guy was off duty. Went off the deep end at a party with his ex-girl friend and opened fire.
He was taken out by the Tactical response team from his own department. He was on the job for only one week. Not sure if he was a patrol deputy or some sore of uniformed support person like dispatch or jailer. No word if this was his duty weapon or not.

If cops here didn't carry guns we would have a LOT of dead cops. Things are changing. A buddy of mine in England told me there is a lot of talk of letting all English police carry side arms, not just the special response teams

A litle bit of topic here, but the guns in policecars here in Norway was put there for a few years ago. Before that, all units had to rush back to the main station to get theyr guns if there was an situations. As nslt204 sayd, things are changing. I guess we will see police here with sidearms in a few ears.

20 year-old cops...

Just doesn't sound right to me.

Can't drink legally, but can use deadly force.

I haven't heard much, P25 encryption is being used most of the time.

It looks like there were a lot of WSP Troopers there. There should have been some activity on their frequencies.

From what I understand, the State Patrol was only there for traffic control around the crime scene.

Crandon PD and Forest Co Sheriff were also assisted by Laona PD, Wabeno PD, Florence Co Sheriff, Marinette Co Sheriff, Oconto Co Sheriff, Langlade Co Sheriff, Oneida Co Sheriff, Vilas Co Sheriff, Federal Bureau of Investigation & WI Division of Criminal Investigation.

I was in the Tipler area in nearby Florence Co. during this past weekend and I copied nothing but encryption all day Sunday from Forest Co.. Did hear occasional State Patrol ops on 155.445 but evidently much of the traffic was simplex on scene. The State Patrol does not use the repeater system for mobile-to-mobile traffic; dispatching purposes only. I heard brief coordination but not much. Question I have is how does the State or anyone else for that matter communicate with Forest Co. in a situation such as this?

The State Patrol was assisted by Michigan State Police in locking down some of the border highways heading north. That "road block" was a type of thing I'd only seen in movies prior to this. Highway 70 was a busy road with lights and sirens all day Sunday. Only thing we were lacking was some air support! FWIW, there was no "mutual aid" so to speak from Marinette & Florence. They did not respond to anything in particular but were given the "BOLO" advisory as were most dept's in the state and the U.P. early Sunday morning. Dickinson and Iron were also alerted to the situation and asked to watch roads crossing into thier jursidiction.

Keep in mind that a 'cop' under the age of 21 can not purchase his or her own handgun under Federal Law... but it can be supplied by the department or by 'mommy'.

Psychological screening should be MANDATORY in this goofy state. As of today, it is OPTIONAL, unlike approximately 40 other states where it IS mandatory.

Just a couple more things to think about as we approach election time.

Has there been any data released as far as any chemicals being in his system during this attack? One can only hope some sort of drug or alcohol was a factor in this just to at least give some sort of answers as to how/why/etc..

So what took them 4 hours to finally get to the farm where the off duty was?
How can the guy drive all over the place without no Law Enforcement spotting him,not like there is heavy traffic out there.
I think Law Enforcement up there did a very poor job.
You hear any of the tapes they released, dispatcher sounded like a high school moron, even forgot he put 1st caller on hold.
They wouldn't even tell family members if their kids were dead, they waited hours for that too and put family thru hell.
Why won't they realease all 911 tapes and daily log?
Bradley Schultz was my sisters nephew, she was up there when this happened.
Right before he went out for the night he was at kitchen table with another family member laughing about something they were looking at on his laptop,he walked out after that we all know what happened.
There was no drinking at that party, the girl who lived there was not a drinker,so who knows what made the ex boyfriend go so crazy that he will kill so many, all shot in head and or face.
