Breaks in reception

Where I live (Senatobia, MS) we have a VHF Conv system for public
safety. Whenever I receive traffic, even if it is a strong signal,
there are breaks in it.

Ex.
Be en route to a XXX car 10-50 at hwy51 and XXX. (XXX would be silence
of course)

I have tried opening the squelch all the way during long
transmissions, but it still fades in and out. I don't know if this is
a reception issue or a problem with my scanner.

The dispatcher uses tones for voice but I have my scanner set to CSQ
or search on most of the freqs.

I assume "Conv" means conventional, means non-trunking, so what "all" are you referring to? Am I missing something?

Could just be plain old fade. Could also be that the scanner is losing the code squelch when the signal fades. Try not using it.

As I said on email:

Any of the following being on will cause the gaps you are hearing:

* Channel Priority
* Close Call
* Weather Priority

To eliminate the gaps, turn them all off.

Just curious / What scanner does Weather Priority, and does it just go to the freq. in your area, or the AM tone alerts too? Also, do you think the 396 will have this feature?

If this is for a BC246T or SC230, that would be your problem!

I think what they are talking about is Weather Priority on when
you have the SAME codes programmed in. With this feature turned on if
there is a weather alert broadcast that you want to hear for your area then it will sound the weather alert and weather. [/quote]

The BC246T has it. The BCD396T will also have it, as will the BR330T, I think.

It checks the WX channels for the 1050 Hz tone that indicates an alert. It doesn't work with the SAME codes. That's a separate warning function that does not work while you are scanning.

The WX PRI looks for the tone and if it sees it, alerts you. While it's checking for the tone, there is naturally a gap in the received signal you are scanning.

OK, that explains it a little better. With my 94 & 95 the alert is pretty much useless, because it only works when your in the weather band.

Not the 95!!

Set your local weather channel as the priority (press Wx then when it finds the weather channel press func pri). Turn on the priority while scanning or manual, and you have enabled Wx alert. You can't use Wx alert with another priority channel though.

When I do this, after I get a transmission on a TRUNKING bank, it just makes a noise after the first key up. It sounds like it goes to the control channel and freezes there. If I go to the WX first, then put in alert mode, it will not go back to trunk scanning.

Either you're doing something wrong, or there's something wrong with your Pro-95. I just set a Wx channel as priority, turned priority on while scanning, and still heard my Motorola II TRS with no problem, transmission after transmission.

The scanner does lock onto the control channel once in a while, but it's not due to setting a Wx channel as priority.

I will try some other things things today. Most of my systems are EDACS, but that shouldn't matter. I will try with a MOTO bank, and then with a conventional bank only on. I bought my 95 new, and doubt that the scanner is defective, however the user may be .

Works fine with MOTO & Conv., but the problem happens with all my EDACS systems. No big deal, because I never use any priority, because it drives me nuts the way it breaks up the conversation you are monitoring.

Ahh, it is a scanner defect with EDACs trunking, any priority channel will do it on everyone's pro-95.
