Funny? More like "Highly anticipated". Actually I think there should be laws that prevent people who manage large single vendor contracts from working for that vendor within five years of leaving the management position.

In fact I think that general ideal should be applied universalkly to all contracting at every level from local to federal including military contracts. Contractors should not be in a position where they can manipulate a political environment by hiring them at a later point in time...if you help us get the contract. That kind of thing should be absolutely forbidden.
you are not getting my sarcasm.

Is there any intentions to encrypt the whole system when it goes P25 Phase 2? Hopefully it's only setup with the talkgroups that are now.

i do not know. I would like to say that Sheriff Ivey would not encrypt "normal" channels. That said, $$, politics, grants, and big corporations have a strange way of influencing decision making. It's like the foregone conclusion that there is no way in hell Motorola would win the contract when Harris is one of the largest employers in Brevard county.... right?

I know that Sheriff Ivey makes a really big deal about the relationship with his department and the citizens of the county - "teamwork", "citizen policing" - that kind of stuff. So yes, it would surprise me if they went 100% ENC.

on a side note about ENC traffic on Brevard. I have not looked too hard.... but I haven't seen >ANY< ENC traffic. They have several ProVoice TGs that are used by the county deputies and Titusville/Palm Bay PD. (there is a hidden tip there... if you have a scanner capable of provoice and did not buy the option for your Uniden, you are really missing out.....) - and I will finish with the statement that yes, there are certain TGs used by police that are deserving of ENC.... Narcs, Vice, Warrants, SWAT, that kind of stuff.... I have zero issue with those types of TGs being ENC.

Doug, there are several TG's that are encrypted here in the south end of the county. They are mostly from Melbourne PD and Palm Bay PD. As for BCSO, I havent heard encrypted traffic as of yet.

as soon as I read what I typed in your quote above, I realized I was incorrect with my wording. There is at least 1 ENC talkgroup that I do hear fairly often - and that's TG763. Since I don't routinely run Trunker (I use DSD+) - I only caught 2 RIDs on this TG: 11036 and 3783. I was told this was an interop talkgroup with various "agencies", but I honestly do not know who uses it.

This TG is not in the database since I can't 100% ID the user.

Titusville and Palm Bay PD both most certainly have a few ProVoice TGs in use. I have not observed them using encryption, but it is most certainly realistic that they have the capability. I don't really scan Melbourne and Palm Bay so much but I do keep the "TACTICAL X" Palm Bay TG in the scan list since they seem to use this as a back channel fairly often.

if you have some updates, please submit them for Melbourne and Palm Bay - I don't think there have been any updates to the Brevard EDACS system in a while.

Yes, Palm Bay uses some encrypted talkgroups. And Harris corporate security runs encrypted on the system, though technically speaking, Harris security should not even be on the system at all as the security operations of L3 Harris neither support the operation and maintenance of this radio system nor do they qualify as public safety providers. No matter who you call, no matter what your emergency, L3 Harris security won't be responding unless the incident is on L3 Harris property.

Good catch,
And Harris corporate security runs encrypted on the system, though technically speaking, Harris security should not even be on the system at all

You are correct Elroy, I knew I was missing an agency. Harris encrypts their two main channels, not sure if the remaining five TGs are also encrypted. Not much going on there.

TG 763 is not tagged or designated as an InterOp talkgroup. It is used by the USMs and various local JTFs, it is 100% ENC.
