Looks like Brick will be joining the P25 club soon. I was talking with a detective this morning (don't worry, I am not in trouble) and he was showing me his XTS 2500 digital radio. Right now, they are operating in analog mode, but he said the radio techs were working on getting the digital set up. The radio guys said it will have encryption capabilities, and they plan on using it a lot. Dispatch might be left in the clear he said, but he had no solid encryption schedule. He jokingly admitted he doesn't know "sh*t" about the radios, but that was all he heard so far. We were talking about scanners, and he said while Brick listeners often do help out the police, there have been times the suspects have fled before the cops arrives, and they have discovered scanners in the houses. As always, he said this new system was supposed to be in place 10 years ago, so he did not have a current time frame for all this roll out. Today was the first day they began to use the new radios.
