Do you know what the frequencies are for the "tac" channels? Are they possibly "talkaround" for channels 1-4?

All these are still analog right?

Manny

Yes, sort of.

Fireground 4 is mixed mode with PD. PD will use it with NAC 505 but both PD and FD radios will supposedly be set for mixed mode receive so they can talk to each other at an incident or event.

I have also seen 154.995 (FG3) come up with NAC 505 during testing.

As far as the PD, I have seen the following pop up here and there:
154.7250 - NAC 501
155.4300 - NAC 502 - encrypted
154.8225 - NAC 503 - clear/encrypted
155.6250 - NAC 504
Some of these pop a lot with no traffic. Just what appears to be a keyup.

Interesting!
Thanks Scott! It will be interesting to see this all come together once both systems are fully up and running.

Combined Communications Center article

There was a pretty good article in the May 1st Connecticut Post regarding the new combined communications in Bridgeport. The inside looks pretty nice. Towards the middle of the article it was mentioned how the switch to digital/encrypted for the police has been delayed due to some of the police cars not having upgraded radios.

Here is the link to the article:
http://forums.radioreference.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=1306815

Are both the PD and FD using the XTS2500 and XTL2500 or are they using the 5000's?

Chris,
Your link was incorrect. Here is a good one.

New Bridgeport 911 center up and running, with some static - Connecticut Post

I actually got to see the new dispatch center last Wednesday just prior to the PD going live. I was there to see the new emergency operations center that is in the same building. We were given a tour and they brought us in to see the dispatch center. I can say this. The building is really state of the art. The EOC is set up so that all departments have their own table with access to each other. Very high security set up with double redundant power and backup generator. The building is designed to with stand a strong Cat 3 or low Cat 4 hurricane. The windows and doors are designed to withstand both shotgun and bullet blasts. These are just a few of the design features of the building. All in all a very well designed and built building. No matter who the city keeps in the dispatch center answering and dispatching calls, the building is well set up to handle it.

Dave,

Thanks for posting the correct link I must have copied the wrong link by accident. Thanks.

Thats pretty neat that you were able to get a tour of the EOC. It sounds like a really nice building. How many console positions do they have? Are their certain positions for just FD and PD?

They have 2 Police and 2 Fire dispatch positions. That does not include the supervisors positions which I believe is 2. I think they also had a seperate room for "special" situations if needed. The EOC has dispatching capabilities also in a seperate room. There were at least 4 911 operator positions. When I went through they were using 2 of them again with a supervisor position.

maybe the Inputs. Remember the channels are being shared so FD could be on a PD channel and so on

I was in Bridgeport on 5/6, and 5/7/10. On my way down stopped at the Branford Rest area on I-95, and Bpt Police came in "loud and clear" on their main channel of 154.725 mhz. But for the fire dept it was another story. Could barly hear them on their main channel of 153.77 MHz. Somebody had mentioned earlier that BFD was coming in very poor in Shelton (?). I fully agree from the transmissons that I heard. Later while even in Bpt., the fire was coming in about half the volume of the police. And units were calling and I could only pick up a few that were appparently close by. Certainly, no repeater in use from what I could hear.
As a matter of fact, I seemed to be picking up Stamford Fire on 154.13 Mhz better than Bridgeport Fire while in Bpt. And the surrounding depts were all coming in good. (Milford, Stratford, Fairfield Fire, etc with no problem). It is my opinion that after listening those two days that at least for now, the Bridgeport Fire transmissions are worse than before. It seems they have much less volume. Whatever the problem, they certainly are NOT transmitting up to par in comparison to all the others.
I did NOT monitor any other Bpt.fireground channels or other Bpt P.D. channels. Only 154.725 and 153.77 Mhz.

was it p25 when you monitored the police?

"Skynet", I think p25 is digital.I'm really not too famililar with the terms. But, I can tell you that the Bridgeport Police was coming in the same as it always has been. By that I mean with a pretty good signal, maybe just a bit clearer than before. And just to let you know, My car scanner is really old, no Pls, or anything special. My trunk mount antenna is pretty old too. Its magnetic for high, low, and untrahigh bands.Just nothing special at all about it.
Maybe BPD and BFD will just stay on analog, and I'll be a happy man. (wishful thinking right). One of my favorite depts, Providence Police and Fire went digital a few months ago. Buying a brand new scanner, getting it programed, of course paying for that, and reception not really as great as it was before. Plus I used to be able to hear Providence Fire at my house about 40 miles away. They are a good dept, but no more listening to them for me at the Ole' Homestead.
But getting back to Bpt P.D., you can still listen on anolog and their signal seems pretty strong. Fire, Not so Strong.
