Hello everyone! I’m currently from the Washington county area in Arkansas and I was wondering if anyone has heard the NXDN special event ops at the University of Arkansas. I went to Razorbacks Stadium and heard it on my SDS 100 but since football season is over now I wanted to try and get it at Bud Walton Arena for the basketball games and I have not been able to head hear anything at the Arena.

They use the UA‘s NDXN system for basketball games but there is much less radio traffic than football games. It’s pretty quiet during the game. I typically hear most activity when fans are arriving and leaving the arena (traffic control, transit/busses, etc.). For football, they use a mix of UA’s NXDN and an AWIN MAC channel.

Thank you for the information. So
It’s not on the special events on NXDN?

It is, actually. If you're wanting to monitoring during a basketball game, listen to the NXDN system. You'll hear them using some of the special events talkgroups.

Where were you? Though I’d be surprised, it’s possible they use simplex inside the arena meaning ups have to be close to pick that up.

I would expect them to use the system, though. But just sharing this as a thought.

I was on MLK, So I decided to swing by the parking lot at Bud Walton and I listened for a little while. The buses got pretty active after half time when folks started leaving early. My scanner does have a close call but I have not mastered how that works exactly. But being in the parking lot may not be close enough, I’m not sure…… I just know it’s interesting listening to the scanner during football games and wanted to give the basketball a try but I know there’s a whole lot less transmissions for basketball versus football.

In the past (although I've heard rumors they are deprecated) I have heard them use UTAC43 Repeater Analog. I have confirmed this myself when helping another agency with their interop plan. They don't have a license for it, but it was mostly used for traffic about Football games, Mostly to allow comms for support agencies (out of town officers, etc.) that didn't have a NXDN capable radio. Most agencies in NWA have some sort of UHF Capabilities, so analog was the common denominator.

Some times they would use UTAC43 direct, probably because the repeater wasn't programed in their radio. You could always tell the difference as the dispatcher would seeming be talking to themself. If close enough, you would hear the repeater give a beep (courtesy tone) for those that went through it.
