Budget scanner or handheld for Denton county public works? Do I really need a $600 scanner to listen in on little elm or frisco police and fire?

Worrying this has been covered multiple times. But didn’t find anything relating to my area and devices except for the sds100 and g4/5. Are there any devices that aren’t that expensive that I can use to listen in locally?

Any handheld that does P 25 will work. I have the Uniden P25 P2 and the Whistler TRX 1. Ask around in your area about distortion on simulcast sites. I had some on one site. The SDS 100 will handle that problem because it is designed to deal with simulcast distortion. If you are 10 miles or less from the transmitter sites then you should not have any problems with the 325 P2. Any further than that then the SDS 100 is what you should get if you can afford it. The tariffs will increase the price so get it before they kick in. Hope that helps and good luck.
