Programming my 996XT and having issues downloading the DoD nationwide system. Clearly too darn large and only want to download sites and TGs covering Oregon and Washington. I know when it downloads it brings up a deal with boxes to check but file so large it stops downloading not even half-way through. Is there some way to limit/choose the initial download? Even if it means just the sites and setting it to ID search (although not ideal)?

all the others say "just DL the control groups", My new 996 just came this evening, it's kinda like my SDS200's little brother,
I also am wondering why you seem to have a slow download, assuming you have baud rates set correctly I can tell you
that I have the xtpro in demo mode and i also have a registered copy of proscsan and neither one of them are lightning
fast. So it may just be used to faster with other scanners and software?
try the control group only option. don't forget to save and erase.

You have to wait until the data finished downloading from the database. It is not too large and took about 10 seconds to download here.

Gommert

I'm a loyal Butel user for all of my rigs. With the XT Pro, I tried twice or more and it went only so far (probably not even halfway through the sites) before it stopped. Using laptop, which is only rig still with Win 7. Used to have it on my desktop but Hard Drive crapped out and the guy who fixed it up used one with Win10...the scourge of Microsoft (POS). I'll guess your computers are current state of the art fast, but I have to compensate since I don't have any software for WIN10. (Not sure, might be a blessing rather than a curse.)

Not sure what Chris above means by "Control Group" unless he's referring to the two or three control channels at each site. That may be fine, but it doesn't even download all of the sites, or I could check the appropriate boxes of the few in the two states I want, not nationwide. Can you be more clear to me about what you mean wait until the data is finished downloading, because I think I have. If it means anything, I probably bought the software around 2011 when I got my 996s and 396. I did check for updates and it shows the builds for using the 996P2 as well as the newer handheld. I'm in a quandary.

Download speed does not really depend on your computer or OS just the network speed, just wait until you see 'done' in the status bar then you can select Site(s) and talkgroups. This took less than 10 seconds to download. As long as the status bar is red it is still downloading data.

I find downloading data from RR's database into ARC XT Pro to be slower than I think it should be. Not sure why as my Comcast internet speed is 900 Mbps! I have one of the fastest modems available, Netgear CM2000 modem and a very fast Netgear router and I'm hard wired for 1-2 Gbps with CAT6 cables. I'm running Win10 Workstation on a Dell Precision 5820 with 64GB of RAM.
My processor is:

CPU
Intel Xeon W 2123
Cores 4
Threads 8
Name Intel Xeon W 2123
Code Name Skylake-W
Package Socket 2066 LGA
Technology 14nm
Specification Intel Xeon W-2123 CPU @ 3.60GHz
Family 6
Extended Family 6
Model 5
Extended Model 55
Stepping 4

My problem is not the speed (although I do wish faster). I just want it to complete the download of the data; then I can edit it down to what I will actually use. I'm just not sure what the lack of ability to download the whole system is a product of computer, WIN 7, or what???

Please I need something which allows this. Last build listed that it included the P25 Phase II non-HP Unidens. Is there another I miss because it is set for Auto check and will not do so if I direct it from "Help"? I know you all think I'm crazy, but I've been at this hobby since before 1970, and while I don't code I've use computers in business since the early 80s. It's simply not continuing to the end and just need a way to force it to do so.

Are you using a satellite ISP, or T-Mobile home?

Are you exceeding any of these scanner maximum limits?

Channels: 25,000 maximum
Channels per conventional system: 1000 maximum
Groups per system: 20 maximum
Systems: 500 maximum
Talkgroups per trunked system: 500 maximum
Sites: 1,000 maximum/256 per system

Potentially, it's a large file. That said Gommert says he had no problem downloading the entire file with the same software.
But those type of limits are exactly why I want to edit what I download into the radio. Those limits are (I believe) what the RADIO will allow, not the software.

Correct. I just tried that same download here and it completes without any hesitation in just a little over 10 seconds. It may have something to do with your DSL connection. Can you take your laptop to a public WiFi or a friend's house and test with a different ISP?

The question is: Does the OP already have other systems in the scanner and doesn't check the box to delete all systems first when uploading to the scanner? The scanner could be almost full already.

I got the impression he's not uploading to the scanner when the problem occurs. The problem occurs when he is downloading data from Radio Reference into the software.

If that is the case, it could be the ISP. Possibly, OP is using HughesNet or T-Mobile.
In post #10 he mentions he's using Century Link DSL at 50 Mbs, but regardless of advertised speed, DSL could still be suffering the same well known problems with latency, data dropouts, etc. that affect the satellite and T-Mobile data transfers.
