Hello,
It really depends where you live and what you are trying to listen to. If there is no digital in your area, then you have more options that are less expensive. At the moment, if you want a Uniden scanner, they have the BC246T and are about to have the BR330T (both are non digital hand helds). If you need digital, they have the BC296D (Hand Held, about to be discontinued), the BCD396T (Hand Held, just came out in July), and the BC796D ( Base/Mobile unit, came out the same time as the BC296D). UPMan has been hinting that something new will be announced on 9/30, so you might want to see what that will be, but it could be six months before whatever that might be becomes available. As far as the "Pro" version of the Arc software, it is available for the BCD396T and the BC796D (arc250) and has been announced for the BC246T and the BR330T. Uniden has some less expensive base/mobile units available, but they don't have some of the features that I want (like alpha tags). It appears that the "pro" version of the Arc software is not available for these units. Butel does not currently show support for the Radio Shack (GRE) units except the PRO-83 (made by Uniden and no Pro version available).
