I am trying to learn how to use the butel software and was told that you could listen to transmission from your scanner that is stored on your computer by using the software. Is this true? Thanks.

Thanks, I have done that and see my history log in the virtual control history log but how do I listen to the transmission?

Hello,

I guess the answer depends on which scanner you have and which version of the ARC software you have. If you have the "Basic" version you can't record audio, but with the "Pro" version all you would need is a cable to go from your headphone jack to a Line Input on your sound card. Some experimentation with volume levels etc. may be necessary.

thanks Mark. Is there a base and handheld scanner that you would recommend that supports the "pro" version for the software?

Hello,

It really depends where you live and what you are trying to listen to. If there is no digital in your area, then you have more options that are less expensive. At the moment, if you want a Uniden scanner, they have the BC246T and are about to have the BR330T (both are non digital hand helds). If you need digital, they have the BC296D (Hand Held, about to be discontinued), the BCD396T (Hand Held, just came out in July), and the BC796D ( Base/Mobile unit, came out the same time as the BC296D). UPMan has been hinting that something new will be announced on 9/30, so you might want to see what that will be, but it could be six months before whatever that might be becomes available. As far as the "Pro" version of the Arc software, it is available for the BCD396T and the BC796D (arc250) and has been announced for the BC246T and the BR330T. Uniden has some less expensive base/mobile units available, but they don't have some of the features that I want (like alpha tags). It appears that the "pro" version of the Arc software is not available for these units. Butel does not currently show support for the Radio Shack (GRE) units except the PRO-83 (made by Uniden and no Pro version available).
